📆 COVID-19 update: Pakistan reported 1,587 new coronavirus cases and 31 deaths yesterday. Punjab has restarted extensive contact tracing across the province. Pakistan’s overall contacts traced per patient ratio stands at 5.62.
🌲 Jungle workers: The Climate Change Ministry is considering a proposal to employ overseas Pakistanis who’ve lost their jobs as ‘jungle workers’. They’ll plant trees, establish nurseries, and add tree cover to combat deforestation and fire incidents. Read more.
🌾 KP wheat crisis: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing a wheat crisis. The annual requirement is 4.6 million tonnes but the provincial government only has a stock of 1.5 million tonnes of wheat. Read more.

🏫 Schools reopening: The All Pakistan Private Schools Association has announced to reopen schools from the 15th of August, rejecting the government’s reopening date of 15 September. The schools have threatened to protest if the government tries to stop them. Read more.
⚡ Sindh supporting electricity thieves: The federal energy ministry has claimed that the Sindh government is supporting electricity thieves by refusing to lodge FIRs against them. The ministry’s spokesperson also claimed that Sindh’s own bureaucrats are managing the power companies and PPP is just playing petty politics. Read more.
💊 No medicine price hike approved: The Ministry of National Health Services has revealed that it has not approved any price increase for medicines. The prices have been increased by the pharma companies under the Drug Pricing Policy 2018 which allows up to 10% increase. Read more.
⭕ HR Committee takes notice of harassment at schools: The Senate Committee on Human Rights has taken notice of the sexual harassment incidents at a private school in Lahore. A meeting for the same has been called on 22nd July. Read more.
📚Highest literacy rate in Baloch towns: Two small towns in Balochistan’s Pishin district, Balozai and Khanozai, have the highest literacy rate in Pakistan. It is more than 98% in both the towns while the rest of Pakistan stands at 70%. Read more.
💵Rupee hits all-time low: The Pakistani Rupee has fallen to Rs. 168.3 against the US Dollar. Experts believe that a delay in IMF tranche, coupled with low exports and increasing imports is pressuring the rupee. Read more.
